Update: ace hardware was sold. New owners seems confused, unorganized, and unprepared to run a business. Looks like I will be driving to big orange for now.

They have Benjamin Moore paint and they are always helpful and great people to work with.
Last thing, I know the store is nowhere as big as the huge home improvement stores but I promise you that you will be shocked at the amount of stuff you can buy there. Before you assume they don't carry it or it's cheaper somewhere else take a second to call and ask I bet you are happily surprised.

So like most people when I bought my first house I was always trying to save a buck or two when I could. So not only did I try to become my own handy man I also always would go to the big box hardware store just assuming that they would be cheaper. Funny thing is that I actually started comparing prices for many different products, everything from bags of salt or fertilizer, to tools and paint and everything was cheaper at Somers Ace Hardware. If you combine that with the fact that everyone that works there is super friendly and actually knows what they are talking about the choice is obvious. I can't not tell you how many times an employee has taken the time to walk me though exactly what I should be getting for a certain project I have going on. I am by no means a handy man but I feel a little more confident knowing that if I run into a problem I can always go to Ace to seek some advice on how to handle things. They have yet to let me down. I can not say the same for the big box store. So if you want to get customer service from professionals that have decades of experience at very reasonable prices you should definitely start going to Ace Hardware. If you want to pay more, for inferior products, sold to you by someone who has no clue what they are even selling than just keep going to the big box stores.
The people from star hardware dont know how to run the shop like ace. A delivery came in and the entire staff went out with nobody at the register. Me and two others were waiting for ten minutes before someone came out.
